#LFW - February 21st Review

Well, if London Fashion Week hasn’t been an indication on abstract patterns, I don’t know what is… They’re everywhere! Yesterday was no exception; and I’m not complaining!

David Koma:

Koma says a lot without having to use gimmicks to pump up the volume. Granted, he has a little sense of playfulness with dogs cut into some garments, but it doesn’t look silly; it works! Awesome cuts/cut outs; very tailored and geometrical. Also has a great knack for a tasteful play with sheers. It started very monochromatic, but pops of color toward the end add something special to this already successful collection. Geometrically tailored and chic!

Holly Fulton:

Fulton gives bold looks without being silly; it’s cheeky but wearable! She has an interesting use of patterns to create illusions to make someone look slender, and still cool. The patterns are abstract, but she has symmetrical and geometric tendencies that offer great variety! Plenty of dresses and separates with great strap ideas! The palate of dark black with bright pinks, bold blues, and a touch of gold is effective. Symmetrical abstractionist!

Mary Katrantzou:

Katrantzou has never made clashing patterns look so good! I love this collection, and I think the bold mixes are completely effective. This show is the epitome of having it all. There is structure, flow, interesting silhouettes, color, and more abstract patterns than you can muster! There is A LOT going on, but it never seems forced or ridiculous; it really works! Perhaps her knack for making the patterns symmetrically work with the body helps. Clashing pattern gold!

Honorable Mentions:

Aminaka Wilmont – Great dark take on abstract patterns; pops of color and tribal glamour!

Dion Lee – Cool cuts, conservative with an edge; monochromatic with a pop of red!

What do you think of what LFW had to offer for women? I thought, overall, it was pretty successful! I’ll do a little trend analysis soon! Can’t wait for menswear tomorrow!
